For all those who think religion is manipulative - it pales in comparison to the great gods of Consumerism and Popular Entertainment.

i still say religion wins by far. when you watch a commercial that's not really manipulation because you already know what their goal is, ...to get you interested in their product. religion uses far worse manipulation. it says if you don't follow it's ways you will go to hell. that to me is worse than being conned into buying a coke because i subconcsiously liked the black can

I think you have a very healthy definition of "faith" but I am not sure how many of religious faithful would share it - I think they may equate it with your opposite - certainty. I liked your vid - even though I am an atheist and think that organized religion is a Hard Target. I'm also not CERTAIN of the non-exiistence of a God, I can't and wouldn't claim to be able to prove that. But I certainly DOUBT of one's existence.

Well, as an Anglican priest, I hope SOME of the faithful share it! But thanks for your comment.

You only have to see all the sports, entertainment, and gaming videos posted on youtube to see just how successful the god of consumerism is in achieving its goal. Do you seriously think people are conscious of the fact that they are butts in the pew of the church of consumption?

AH - LOL I obviously have not seen many of your vids - this is the first I was lucky enough to bump into. If you speak from the pulpit as you do here - so openly, with such forthrightness - you have some fortunate sceptically-faithful listeners!

i believe both are equally deceptive and with their own motives at heart. you can compare the two forever but it goes both ways.

interesting video you must love 'laugh tracks' on tv imo a newborn baby is totally clueless and is not sentient in the way we experience it. Crying is a reflex. A newborn is clueless about what the double inverted giberish is (vision) and doesnt know what the blobs moving are (his own hands) nor that hes moving them. We start from scratch. Consumer goods & Entertainment is today's Bread and Circuses

I appreciate the depth of reasoning you put into this video. Enough so that I checked out your page. We seem to have some very different ideas about politics. However as you say about religion, you dislike broad brush generalizations. Politics is 'complicated' as well. In a broad brush general way, I am a libertarian right winger. Despite this, we have much in common.
