Description:

More than a hundred years ago, just north of Graeter's ice cream shop stood the Civil War recruiting office for the 46th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. One soldier from Worthington was named George Pingree. He moved to Worthington with his family from New York when he was two years old. George was recruited into the Civil War in the summer of 1861, and went on to serve as a color bearer. A color bearer is a soldier who carries the flag for their regiment. It was one of the most honored and also one of the most dangerous positions in the regiment. More recently in this location, young people have worked at Graeter's scooping ice cream for Worthington residents. Molly Meyers, Librarian at Worthington Libraries, tells the chilling story of Adeline and the mysterious phone calls from someone calling himself "The Viper".
