retoricalanswers ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 14:01:39 wow! she is splendid! i love her so much. she can handle almost every role on broadway. and i think dirtyrottenscoundrel came closest to correct. your mouth is supposed to be tall. and your jaw, face muscles, mouth shape, and all of the sort has EVERYTHING to do with how your voice sounds. __________________________________________________
broadwaystar2be ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 01:41:31 I think her acting is great...sometimes less is more...the emotion in this song almost speaks for itself. With the power in her voice and the message of the song you want to act subtle...if she started doing anything else it would take away from the meaning of the song and also would just look way too over the top. SHe's absoultely incredible and I love listening to her on this song. __________________________________________________
BroadwayBabe121 ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 21:08:54 It all depends on what kind of sound you want to make. But yeah Tall is the best, but if you're going REALLY high for your range, you lift your cheekbones and sort of smile which widens it sort of. but can i second what meloncholybaby said, about MINIMAL movement! My vocal director for our musical's jaw goes like a friggin jackhammer on just one little note! How can you take advice from someone who does that!!! Lol ok sry digressing. I luv suttons voice, and I think she sings very correctly. __________________________________________________
kreditkelley ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 19:37:20 you should watch "Our Finest Dreams" rehearsal with sutton. she has a lot of energy and is a lot more appropriate for stage. it is on my profile. i think she just chose to be subtle on this song. __________________________________________________
DirtyRottenScoundrel ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 15:48:12 Well if you want to get technical, you need to drop your jaw and keep your mouth narrow. Tall as opposed to wide. It gives a much more mature sound and allows for much more range... __________________________________________________
jmacisawesome ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 13:19:09 ACTUALLY, you are supposed to open your mouth wide when you sing. But that isn't what we were criticizing her on. I have no problem with her singing. She's a very blase actress. It isn't just this show. Drowsy has been her only standout for me, and Millie is pretty close. __________________________________________________
EryxnPrivateEye ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 12:10:35 the woman is a machine. AMAZING. __________________________________________________
MelancholyBaby21 ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 04:29:27 ACTUALLY, her face is as it should and must be to sing regardless of song, style, or singer. Healthy singing requires the jaw to be released down and back with MINIMAL movement(the jaw plays no part the production of sound)and for the muscles of the face and neck to be free of any holding or tension. All JUST as Sutton is doing. The weakness is not in Sutton's acting ability, but in the material she is working with. __________________________________________________
EriksDarkAngel ::: Favorites 2007-12-15 21:10:59 Her acting isn't *great* but it isn't horrible. It IS subtle and it's very real. __________________________________________________
broadwaybabe99 ::: Favorites 2007-12-15 18:43:54 i agree 200% __________________________________________________
xIMxAxFAKEx13 ::: Favorites 2007-12-15 01:22:21 I have to say...she sounds better live than on the recording :) __________________________________________________
broadwaybabe99 ::: Favorites 2007-12-14 15:48:28 im like WEEPING. she is so good. MY HERO! __________________________________________________
flwerinmyhair ::: Favorites 2007-12-14 15:39:29 i'm not sure what all of you guys are talking about with her acting .. she's brilliant. one of my biggest inspirations. i adore everything this woman does. __________________________________________________
Broadwayboy101 ::: Favorites 2007-12-14 08:53:27 Hey guys don't be so mean. Maybe she was haveing an offday... but i'm happy for her because this is her dream to do broadway and i'm glad it has happened. __________________________________________________
DirtyRottenScoundrel ::: Favorites 2007-12-13 23:52:43 Part of her brilliance, acting-wise, is her subtlety (sp?). She doesn't telegraph her emotions on her face, which gives all of her characters this underlying dignity. It's very naturalistic, which, granted, isn't always called for in a musical. Her voice displays so much emotion that you become completely transfixed, then whatever emotion she sings you begin to see on her face. It's like masked dramas. It's all in your impression and interpretation of what she feels. __________________________________________________ |
