Description: Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder. -- George Washington We the people compel every level of government to see to the immediate abolishment and repeal of the 1886 Supreme Court decision granting corporations the same rights as living persons under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution which has facilitated a system of legalized corruption in which corporate interests dominate the decisions of the body politic rather than considerations of wellbeing and harmony in regard to the Republic. We the people also compel every level of government to make void all policy which has been made possible through such a decision and that in the future it be made illegal for businesses to influence in any way whatsoever any element of policy making. savvysymbiont ::: Favorites People are dependent on corporations, including politicians. I don't think it was ever imagined that corporate power would grow larger than government power. Now that it has, we are seeing the perversion of an imbalanced republic right before our very eyes. Owning a few republics, now that is power! 07-07-18 06:50:50 _____________________________________________________
QuinnHarrisN ::: Favorites If govt. funded campaigns, I fear those campaigns would be forced to comply (or not happen at all) with those in control of govt. In other words, if govt. funded campaigns, Ron Pauls campaign couldn't happen at all. If this country is an example, Democracy won't fix this problem. 07-07-13 21:49:23 _____________________________________________________
j0eg0d ::: Favorites I don't think the government should have any bearing over which corporations are allowed to profit or not. In the same breath we must prevent these corporation from involving themselves into politics through lobbyism. Do we allow them only so much freedom ? I think I know what Ron Paul would say, but I'd be interested in hearing his answers. 07-07-13 18:45:38 _____________________________________________________
UnderseaCaveman ::: Favorites Correct, the President of United States gets all the air time he wants, and people tune in and listen to him more than any individual congressperson....so he can put significant public heat on congress, who wish to be re-elected! 07-07-13 11:19:00 _____________________________________________________
tanit ::: Favorites Anyone can solve it, with enough sabers. 07-07-13 10:54:33 _____________________________________________________
lojpre ::: Favorites perhaps, but i am skeptical of solution by more government. Ideally, there would be so much competition to be re-elected by a very well informed electorate that congressmen would VOLENTEER to reveal all details of their proceeding. But whatever, as was mentioned, this is a tactical dispute, and obviously not mine to solve 07-07-13 10:49:29 _____________________________________________________
tanit ::: Favorites I think the twelfth these on the link in the video description would hold officials accountable for their ignorance, failings, corruption and regressive policy. 07-07-13 10:43:31 _____________________________________________________
lojpre ::: Favorites indeed. My argument was that by tightening your grip, you allow only the powerful enemies to slip through your fingers, and that there is no way to avoid that "those who expect to be ignorant and free expect what never was and what never will be". The root lies in the fact that the electorate is ignorant 07-07-13 10:36:29 _____________________________________________________
tanit ::: Favorites A vigilant oversight committee. The idea is to make profit a non-issue in the election and decision making process of politicians. Politicians should exist as selfless, indifferent curators of the Republic, not personal wishing wells for those with the money. 07-07-13 10:32:35 _____________________________________________________
tanit ::: Favorites He can set into motion a public outcry against it, thus inspiring the supreme court itself to make a new decision over-riding it. 07-07-13 10:22:00 _____________________________________________________ |
