You should listen to some Frank Zappa solos before you settle on Frusciante! Little known fact, Frusciante actually showed up to an audition for Frank's band, but chickened out before his turn. He claims it's because he wanted to do drugs and party and that wouldn't happen in Frank's band, but I think there was more to it than that!

Did Sum 41 try to cover this, or did they just call their song Machine Gun? cause I read some comments on their video and everyone was raving about how Hendrix could school them and making comparisons between two different genres and I was wondering if there's any connection between the two songs other than title.

Hendrix demonstrates in this performance that for improvisatory brilliance, imagination and sheer feeling he was uniquely, almost divinely gifted. His legacy spans any and all invented categories of music including jazz, blues, rock, folk and art music.
