How YouTube tracks your Viewing Habits

Description:

Can YouTube tell if you watch a video all the way through, or click away after a few seconds? Not everyone on this site seems to be aware that they can. This video is addressed to interested YouTube users rather than to IT experts, so don't expect great revelations. I wouldn't have made it, but strangely enough I can't find any other videos on this subject matter. I'm on holiday from August 25 to September 10, maybe longer. I'll return to posting my usual stuff when I'm back. The video I used as an example is one of my all-time favourites by renetto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z05X9nNNXLU

(pizzapie567:3/3) they will probably just ask your ISP to record your movements, which is a lot easier and more reliable. The chances of you becoming subject to a criminal investigation because of the search terms you use or the videos you watch are extremely low -- even though new legislature that forces ISPs to store all their communication data for many months (like we have in the European Union) could perhaps change that in the future.

(pizzapie567:2/3) on people who aren't actually suspects in a criminal investigation -- without asking a judge first. Still, while Google certainly stores a lot of personally identifiable information, linking it to an actual person will still be difficult in most cases, so I don't believe their data is of much use to investigators. In fact, if they already have you as a suspect,

(pizzapie567:1/3) I don't think so. Of course, investigators can tell both YouTube and Google to hand over their data. In the US, the Patriot Act has greatly expanded the power of a device called National Security Letter: This is a type of request that the FBI and other federal agencies can send to private companies forcing them to hand over their data even

If that's the case, do more voiceover videos. Your voice isn't really that far from that of an easy-listening radio station dj.

(ladyelgin1984:2/2) Deleting cookies doesn't help against people stealing your accounts, though (except if other people have physical access to your computer). These attacks usually take place when you are logged in anyway, or while you are logging in, or entering your password in places where you shouldn't. Deleting cookies is more the equivalent of logging out.

(ladyelgin1984:1/2) Some browsers, like Firefox and Opera, offer an option to clear your cookies every time you close the browser. I think this is the best option. Other browsers require you to delete the cookies manually. Be aware, though, that deleting all your cookies may lose you personal settings like custom language or display settings on some websites. It's usually only a minor discomfort.

How do you clear your cookies regularly? I don't want people to be able to get into my accounts. Would it delete those types of things too?
