Correct, and when it's completely unbridaled, like a wild stallion, it's of no use to the rancher. (= the people) It runs off and does it's own thing. (= massive trade deficit) I'm not saying you shouldn't be permitted to become rich. I'm stating that a responsible government must have the well-being and future of it's citizens as it's number one priority, and not personal enrichment. (as is the case now)

Therefore, when corporations act against the best *long-term* interests (not quarterly profits) of the nation's economy (by extension, the prosperity of it's citizens), the government should step in. The U.S. has lost it's industrial might, and it's happened because of the extreme greed of financiers, businessmen, and stock brokers. When the average citizen loses, they win. When they speak of growth, they speak of mostly low-wage, bullshit jobs. (=selling products we once manufactured)

Read Ayn Rand's ethics, The Virtue of Selfishness: A New Concept of Egoism. She explains why selfishess is a virtue and why its opposite--altruism or self-sacrifice--is a vice. Consequently, because she supports selifhsness, she also support 100 percent laissez faire capitalism. Because of the influence of religion and human irrationality, selfishness has a bad name, but it shouldn't be so.

I'm affraid we have completely different views on economics. It's sounds like your views are more in line with Keynes, while mine are in line with von Mises.

Keynes made alot of valid, undeniable points. For instance, during the Second World War, he was vehemently opposed to the government borrowing money from financiers, and instead proposed greater taxation to avoid inflation. Governments must do what is necessary for the people rather than what's best for their pocketbooks. I actually do agree that a laissez faire capitalism within a nations borders is mostly good, but in this global system, it becomes destructive.

You sure about that? You mean when they approached the $1 billion mark, and all they had to do after that was watch it grow to $2, $3, $4 billion, etc.. They worked for that? Do they deserve a massive increase in their portfolio when GM closes factories to 'slim down'? I say they deserve to have half or more of their fortune confiscated, and if they give trouble, alittle something more.
